Hello all,
I have just received a reed micrometer, and luckily I saved my favorite reed ever made for me by David Schneider (and a few others). I took some measurements, which are shown in the picture attached.
Though it is poorly diagramed, I think it gets the point across. The main point I took away from this experiment is how he shapes the blend from heart to tip. It seems there is a triangle shape created, but then the two sides toward the tip are scraped down to meet the tip and edges.
I believe he said the shape was Brannen X, I could be wrong. I have been making reeds with Joshua +2, and they are very resistant. I've tried taking cane from the channels of the heart, and that is very helpful, the pitch doesn't seem overly effected, and it does make them less resistant, but they are still too resistant for my pleasure. I have ordered some Brannen X, Ruth, and Samson +3 shaped cane to see if the added flare they have will solve this issue.
