Yes....it was amazing to learn of that... does that prove oboes those were made better? Or does it simply prove that there are no such things as blow outs? Or is it even possible that he compensated his instrument with his reed and physical change? Sort of mysterious. But you know, i wouldnt say that he is out of date. The book is co edited by Edwin Roxburgh, one of the leading modernist of the oboe. I'd say that his teachings are still pretty valuable these days....at least to the English players, due to the fact that he is one of the people who led the English to their own distinctive sound, sort of like a pioneer. You know his accident story still provokes excitement in me when i hear it from a person who just happened to learn about it. Haha....His approach to music and technique is just too good to ignore.
