The idea of the staple could help. My own experience, however, says the opposite: this might depend on the brand/model/exact individual instrument..... or even climate patterns! It's a matter of comparative pitch between the short-tube and long-tube notes. Try a longer reed: the staple can be longer, or just chop it longer.
There are also fingerings which can help: add some right hand fingers. On my B-natural, adding the right-hand middle finger will raise it, whereas Bb with a forked-F fingering will lower it. Keeping all right-hand fingers down for the C will center it, but it also sounds restrained.
