If you know about the mid-80s synths from Yamaha, the DX-7 was my keyboard, a dedicated sequencer, a couple small (non-keyboard synths called FB01 and TX-81Z and a 4-track tape deck for recording.
I did only live playing and no quantization and there was no editing like we have in modern sequencers and certainly nothing like the digital editing I do in Pro Tools now. It was a digital stone ages, but exciting at the time.
So, they are what they are, and still fun to play along to now and then.
I think the most realistic things I did were Handel Sonatas using the DX-7's harpsichord and one of the cello sounds from one of the other synths.
I'll get around to doing those too, after Mozart. Doing the Oboe Concerto play-alongs next.
