I follow my own rules about advertising on the BBoards, which is why you don't hear much about that.
Way up on top is a link for web hosting and advertising. It's primarily there for small businesses who need websites and/or would like to have a banner. I charge a small annual fee for advertising. If someone needs to have a website, the package deal I have with the host allows me to resell part of the web space I'm allocated. There's another server that contains the databases and email lists - that one isn't shared.
I roll the annual advertising fee into the hosting charge and thereby can give a break to the small music businesses out here. The little I make allows me to take the long-suffering Missus out for dinner once in a while.
The annual donation drive helps out with the database & email sides of Woodwind.Org. That side incurs the greatest cost since it's a dedicated virtual server.
