OK, Sherlock - lessee... Looking at more recent pics of Rapier it doesn't strike me as likely, but I can't rule out that thought. I agree that the reed/embouchere implies an American player. The phone? My recollection of period movies suggests fatter bases than American phones, but there's not really enough of it to be certain. I used to wear French cuffs when I was young enough in the business to want to look spiffy (until I got lazy...) so that's a non-identifier.
All good thoughts...
I don't know why my first thought (and Goodwinds') was British...
I suggested to Pat McFarland that he join this thread - maybe he can cast a little light on the source of the pic.
Is it possible that you are the Don Smith I went to Foothill College with in the middle 60's? That would be a trip!
