Just wondering what staples any of you Marigaux 2001 (not 901) players use. After tinkering with a fruit salad of staples, I'm ready to hone in on one type of staple for consistency purposes, yet I'm not sure which one to try. My reeds are inconsistent enough that I can't fully tell which ones have been better.
I've been using mostly Glotin ** 47 mm brass staples. Some Forrests/Stevens #2 brass (regular wall, I think) and I think I have a few Webers and Rigotti thrown in there, among other things. I can't really tell much of a difference between any of them (again, various cane/reed-making abilities). Only that I had some really thick-walled tubes which made a very powerful sound. Also, the Chiarugi metal staples sound trumpet-like and I can distinguish them immediately but I have yet to make a good reed on them. I also think I have trouble playing on larger aperture tubes (e.g., the Chiarugi, less oblong). I seem to have most success (i.e., playable) on the Glotin ** or * staples, but not sure if it's a fluke.
Anyway, any suggestions that would work with the Marigaux 2001 bore would be appreciated, lest i randomly choose staples again. Or at least some I should definitely avoid.
