At some point in my corporate IT career, I started getting promos and opportunities based on communication skills.
That was a fun realization, because sometimes effective means defensive (of the company) so obfuscation is the order of the day. Other times its bridging technical subjects for non-technical (exec) audiences.
Two different bosses offered their opinions:
1) "I almost never understand anything you say, but I sure do like the way it sounds." (Retired military guy.)
2) "You really have a way with words, you can stand the language on its ear and make it fart a pickle."
I preferred number 2's insights...
