Hi all,
I'm going to audition for principal oboe in Madrid (Teatro Real) in early October. The first round is the Mozart Concerto complete and must be performed with piano accompaniment. The second round is a solo piece (also with piano) of the candidate's choice. No guidelines.
I've been playing through some things and thinking about what the show and don't show, the kind of feeling they'd leave a jury with, etc. and I've pretty much settled on the Poulenc Sonata. It lacks anything really technically showy, but it feels like a good choice anyway.
My second choice was the Goossens Concerto, but I don't want to risk it on one rehearsal with an unknown pianist. I'd love to play the Dorati Duo Concertante or the Britten Temporal Variations, but they're too taxing for the pianist and too tough to put together quickly.
Has anyone any experience with an audition round of this sort? (If you think that the Poulenc is a terrible idea, please tell me before it's too late!)
Thanks, everyone.
