The main action fingerplates have been built up by soldering on tops to them (and pretty badly at that as there are gaps around them) and the keywork and plating is pretty worn out in various areas of high contact.
So I think it's more likely it was owned by someone with corrosive perspiration and they wore through the plating on the fingerplates leaving it rough (and filing it smooth wouldn't leave enough metal on them), so discs were soldered to the tops of them instead.
