I did take acoustics in college and it was a wonderful subject.
You can probably get a good jump just searching on-line, using wiki pages, etc.
It really does help things about oboe to understand rooms, aspects of projection and the hows and whys oboes can sound so different up close compared to 20-40 feet away.
I know people who sound dark and warm up close, but thin and kind of shrill at distance.
And the reverse is sometimes true. What I don't understand after all these years are those players who manage to sound dark and warm up close and also at distance.
I'll probably never get that...:)
