 A mystery shaper tip

Happy New Year to All

Can anyone identify the maker of this tip? (see attached)

The only distinguishing mark is the stamped number "1" on the face just above the tang. It is somewhere between the Mack and RDG1 tips and reminds me somewhat of the Brannon X. I've asked them, btw, and they said it's not theirs.

I've had this tip for many years and found it in a box that was mistakenly hidden away. It may have been originally purchased from Jack Spratt but not sure. When it was likely purchased about the only places that sold commercially made tips was Nielson, Brannon, Spratt and Gilbert. This is definitely a machine made tip. I've tried my hand at them and they never, ever look this well refined.

Thanks for any input.
Richard

Hi, Richard -

Sorry to be so very long getting back to you. I was recovering from surgery...

I'm sure you have an RDG-1 shaper tip. While I was doing some work for Bob Gilbert years ago he gave me a casting from which an RDG-1 was to be made.

This is a picture of it, and from the marking, the ramp, the shape of the ears, I'd say they were identical. Except, of course, mine hasn't been made into a finished tip yet.

Sorry, Richard, the attachments don't seem to stick to the message. I'll dig out the email you sent me and reply that way...
