yes I agree with Mike, and a 'better' instrument helps but does not replace the player's skill. I got my old instruments overhauled and it made such a difference.
and one must always be on guard against the 'grass is greener on the other side of the fence' syndrome.
Who knows? If you play duets with your friend, they might find something they envy about YOUR instrument...!
