Add more overtones? That sounds plain wrong - your band leader doesn't understand his acoustics.
Firstly, try and understand why they are complaining. Why does your oboe stand out? Does it sound harsh, whiny? Does it sound buzzy? What is the problem?
Where do you get your reeds from? How many do you go through in an average month, or do you change your reed every six months whether you need to or not?
There are lots of things you can do to improve your sound, but first you need to understand what the problem is. Then, go on youtube and find a sound you want to aim for. The rest is closing the loop (listening for the sound you want to hear) and ironing out the problems.
Overtones? Fiddlesticks. Add more fiddlesticks to your sound, why don't you.
