I wonder what Oboe he plays ....................... the sound is slightly covered - I wonder if it is a Loree Royale?
Those European short scraped reeds have good intonation characteristics/stability; however, they do seem to be tough to play!
I have found in my reed making - there is a trade off between pitch stability and more wood; and greater flexibility and less wood on a reed. The trick is to find the "sweet spot; which gives both pitch stability and flexibility ........................
