Howard,
Buy small amounts of cane from various suppliers. Be sure to buy different brands too. Then narrow down what you want from the cane and whether the cane meets your expectations.
I always makes four reeds from for different batches. I used different color thread to identify each batch.
I then can see which cane makes the best reeds and why.
You can then purchase that cane(s).

I use Ghys, Danzi, RDG, and Rigotti at the moment. The RDG and Rigotti (at least this lot) have made better reeds than the Danzi and Ghys. The cane is harder in relation to the other batches. Right now it is fall - so maybe the other cane will perform better in the summer.......................
The more cane the merrier ................................ it is a constant struggle - and you must keep on trying different batches and growers.
