 Covey Oboes - what's happening
Author: winstondawg

My friend and I had been trying to contact Covey Oboes by email and phone and had not been successful (ie. emails not answered and voice mailbox is full). Since we're in Canada, I was wondering if anyone in the US might know what's happening with them?

You were aware that Paul Covey died two years ago this month? I don't know what the business has been doing for the last couple of years, but since their website still says "new oboes available through 2008", it seems reasonable to assume it hasn't been "business as usual".

ETA: they may not even remember that the website is still up.

Yes, I'm aware that Paul had passed away and that the business had new owner(s). I just found out from another source that the store had moved to another part of Georgia - I'm waiting for more details from this source.

Nonetheless, if anyone has additional information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Not too long after Paul died, I contacted the business, and spoke with Ginger. I was inquiring about whether there were any oboes available. She told me then that she would be finishing some instruments which were in the pipeline, and would contact me when one would be available to try. She never contacted me. Though I do not recall the role she played in the production of the instruments when Paul was still working, I do recall that she was part of that production.

One person who might know something about what's going on at Covey is Brian Seaton, who did a lot of the technical work there after Paul became unable to do it.

Brian is no longer with Covey, but he has a website which looks current: http://www.oboehouse.com/index.html,

You might try to contact him there.

Yeah... if anyone knows about the current state of Covey Oboes it'll be Brian- he's an old friend of mine from the high school days back in NoVA.

As of a few months ago, Ginger was toying with the idea of not selling cane (tube, gouged, &shaped). I haven't been able to get in contact with them either, so I'm guessing they might have stopped selling supplies for right now or completely.

I bought a radius gauge from Ginger recently. Maybe I was lucky but she answered the phone and sent it to me COD.

Before I forget, I want to thank everyone for their input. I'm glad they (Covey Oboes) are probably still around.
