The version I have does have a special note in saying that they have resolved the end chord for the purposes of this version only for that very reason. The version I have in the 'difficult passages from bach' book does not resolve and therefore can't be performed on it's own - apart from not having an accompaniment.
I am in a Halloween themed concert so this piece qualified as I can play it tolerably, people know it vaguely but not well, and it mentions the word 'Grave' in the title! What a set of criteria!
I know what you mean about recycling tunes, I'm forever thinking I've played something but it turns out to be a chunk stolen (can you steal your own work?) from elsewhere. Though to be honest I get this piece and a Handel adagio mixed up when I try to hum one of them in the car.
