Does anyone have a list of or know where I can find the lineage of oboists of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande from the '40s onwards?

sounds like a fun research project :-)
Great orchestra, used to have LP's in my former life over there
pity orchestra websites don't link access to their musicians archives with such basic info as tenure dates, old bio's and concert listings, have found one or two that do, but certainly not commonly found ... yet?
presume you've already searched OSR online and found they only have les directeurs artistiques depuis 1918
IMO most direct route would be to contact OSR's historian/archivist via public relations yourself, do you or a colleague know anybody already in OSR, or used to be there?
how about good old standby reference publications by OUP?
such as Who's Who in Music, or any other such reference works
maybe OUP has their own publication library-archives of their older out of print publications?
are you active alumni of any university, or associate college?
Alumni privileges usually include use of their library with contacts worldwide
London public library membership? Ask the librarian to help connect you specifically to their online resources most likely useful for your research
BBC Radio archives for that period might be interesting, all those concerts they aired included OSR

Hi Chris
John Anderson (Philharmonia, ECO and RPO etc) was a member of the Suisse Romande orchestra some years ago. Perhaps he can be of some assistance to you in your search.

On the few recordings I've heard by them, the oboists in these instances have a lot of the Holliger/Bourgue-type sound - so I was just wondering if they were ever in the lineage at any point in their careers.

Not of any help here, but this also reminds me of Hogwood's recordings with the Basel Kammerorchestra, which upon research i discovered was Omar Zoboli playing in most of those discs. Although, even with another person, they sound pretty much in the Holliger line...I guess there must be a Holliger school in Switzerland on which they are very proud of then?

Hi Chris,
A friend of mine who used to play in Switzerland suggested contacting the current oboists of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. She specifically suggested Vincent Gay-Balmaz whose email address seems to be vgaybal@hotmail.com. There is a website for the orchestra's musicians at http://www.osr.ch/page.asp?pageid=29.
I hope that helps.
Walter
