Ledet's book is unique in that it's not a "how to" manual on reedmaking.
Part I discusses the things that contribute to tone. Chapters are: 1. Respiration, 2. Articulation, 3. The Embouchure, 4. The Instrument, 5. The Acoustics of the Room, and 6. The Listener (Sociological Acceptance of Styles of Playing).
Part II is a collection of photographs of the reeds of leading oboists from Australia, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, New Zealand, Russia, Switzerland, and the United States. There's also a chapter summarizing some of the nationalistic trends in reedmaking.
It's a few decades old, so it's not a good representation of modern reedmaking, but it's all the more fascinating to me since it includes photos and discussions of some reed styles that are now nearly extinct.
Cheers,
Drew
