I spoke with Tom Hiniker and said I was interested in being on the waiting list for an oboe. I spoke with Peter Hurd and he suggested that I order an exact copy of what he (Hiniker) uses. Does anyone have any comments or input? I would love to hear from people who have tried his instruments. I've heard so many great things about them. He has two different bell styles and he will let me try both to see which I like better.

I have a Hiniker oboe. In fact, I have Peter Hurd's Hiniker oboe which he sold to me.
It's like a fine AK Loree, except a little thicker of a sound. It also requires a bit more air, as there's more to blow against. But the reeds I make for my business are made on the Hiniker.
I'm not sure what his two bell styles are, but I imagine my bell is the older, thicker sounding one. I think he might have mentioned he was going to make a more 'ringier" sounding one.
