I have never tried their reeds, but having encountered surprisingly hard reeds from other reedmakers, I feel your pain. And yeah, they do seem to work well, even brilliantly, the first day, but the next day, they don't work so well. My theory is that you tire your embouchure through struggling with it, and when you come back the next day, the muscle fibers are still tired, so your control of the reed suffers.
All I can do is put the reed away for a few months; sometimes when you come back to it, it works.
And sometimes not; I have a collection of reeds that never did break in for me, that I still can't play. Oh well, c'est la vie with le oboe.
