Maybe I can shed some light as someone who has marched with the oboe. It appears that you are not doing field (which yes I have done with oboe one year, its not as bad as everyone is saying honestly) and are doing a street performance. Street parades/comps are easy with the oboe, except that your reed will dry out fast if you aren't careful. As for people who are like you may stumble and fall and gash your eye out or whatever, well in my opinion if someone were to do that, they deserve it. Depending on where you come from, marching on the street is basically military march, not crazy maneuvers. Not to be mean, but its true, its not as hard as what people say. It adds a different texture to the sound (we did street competitions, not just lame parades) and we also had 2 bassoonists with body harnesses play. You can hear the double reeds, it just takes a bit of getting used to.
