i have just spent the last several hours learning an horrendous piece full of multi-phonics for rehearsal on monday evening. i quite enjoy the shock value of producing such discordant sounds, but really dont enjoy having to learn all the new fake fingerings to get the special effects to work. i play cor anglais with the bbc sso in glasgow, scotland, and record for bbc radio 3 works ranging from the baroque to the the most offensive extremes of contemporary music, and, of course, the core repertoire. to chill out, i found myself listening to the amazing artistry of jessye norman singing wagner's liebestod from tristan and isolde. just sublime! i was wondering if the rest of you out there had particular chill out pieces? being of the european style of oboe playing i found myself listening to the american oboist elaine douvas, recently, and very much enjoying her tone and musicality. can anyone tell where she plays and if she has released any cds. thanks. james
