I had the same problem about 4 years ago; I had no luck renting one either. I bought a Fox English horn from Covey Oboes and I love it. It was about 1/2 the price of a Loree English horn... I have the Renard 555. You might have a local dealer near you if you wanted to go play one first. Foxproducts.com shows a lot of dealers in Florida... check it out! Good luck.
