Andrew, you should (or have your teacher) check the adjustment just to be safe...have you adjusted your oboe since you bought it new? Also, get in the habit of storing your instrument with fairly fresh little strips of cigarette paper under the octave pads...this tip was given to me by a master repair person, it helps keep the pads from deforming and sticking to the metal inserts. The octave pads are under quite a bit of pressure from the strong springs that keep them closed.
