Hi Everyone,
I was in the Chicago area this past weekend and stopped in Des Plaines at IMS (what a nice store). I picked up a Joue Jolie ligature (a whole $12.50) and just got done playing it. Wow!!!
I currently use a modified Gigliotti (me and my Dremel) and switch between a Vanodoren, inverted Bonade, and a classic Portnoy but this simple little ligature is incredible. My setup is a Series 9, Portnoy BP02, and either LaVoz or Vandoren reeds.
Anyone else with any experience with this ligature? It is Richard Hawkins endorsed (and maybe even produced). I have a rehearsal tonight and am anxious to try the new ligature.
Regards,
HRL

Dude...
I've not tried the "official" version...but have used "inverted" single screw ligs...(the older pre-joue julie) and liked them for a while. then found, others I became infatuated with.....they're like women....either stick with one....or after trying them all...better go back to the one that's "best for you".....my beet is Oleg...or Vandoren Optimum....
Off to try more

I play on my Richard Hawkins mouthpiece which I was told was the mouthpiece that works best with my Rossi. Such a simple little ligature. I left mine in the bandroom one day and it was stepped on and squished. Even after straightening it out it stil worked great. The set-up is terrific.

I just never know how French sounding I should pronounce it.

So, where can I buy a Joue Jolie ligature? Are there any stores online that sell them? I assume there's only one model...the single screw in the back.

I can't find them anywhere. They were made about 12+ years ago.

I bought mine way back when from the same place. Pretty simple concept. Plays nice. Just two bands holding the reed on with a single screw. Here is a photo of it (attached).

Just saw this. It's not a Joue Jolie, but it's the same concept. I can't seem to see if it's still available, but you might want to so a search for LeBlanc Vintage Clarinet Ligature.

You can get the same effect by rotating a standard metal ligature so that the screw area is about 60 degrees from the top. That way, only the two horizontal bands touch the reed. Reginald Kell did this, and so did Benny Goodman once Kell showed it to him.
The Mitchell Lurie Springboard ligature was very similar, though it had some small ridges that touched the bark.
Robert Marcellus modified an inverted Bonade ligature by cutting out the vertical area between the upper and lower bands.
And the Rovner Light does the same in fabric.
And string is still free.
