While reading recent and past threads, I found myself wondering what the average age of the regular posters here is. Why? - don't know. It might be fairly high.
Anyway, I'm 72. Following a short break of 33 years, I started practicing a couple hours a day in 2007, and that continues. Mostly it's picky work on technique and a few pieces I gradually memorize. I don't play publicly. Why? - don't know. I'm being told I've an autism thing. The sun continues to shine some days.

I just mentioned this in a recent post but - just to put it in this thread - I am 77 soon to be 78. Where did the years go?

It's a hard thing to determine since so many of the folks whose posts makeup the foundation of this bboard have (sadly) passed on.
I get the feeling that the age of influencers on the bboard has steadily raised over time.
It seems like when I first started frequenting the bboard, folks like Tony P and Ken Shaw were in their 50s and were the prominent voices of influence. Dan Leeson and the others - I'm not certain what their ages were.
Perhaps this is a mis-perception/misconception on my part...but from various articles over the past five years or so, I've gotten the feeling that most posters here at 70+. A few in the high school/college group, and a handful in the 40-50 groups.
I discovered the DJML ( Dixieland Jazz Mail List ) only a few years before it dissolved and disappeared ( the Internet isn't forever, after all ). That's back before Bob Ringwald ( Molly's dad, a great jazz pianist ) had passed away, and was hosting the (telnet) group. Many big names frequented that group, and some truly amazing information was shared...yet, it too grew older, the average ages grew older, and someone (I won't say whom) began a social media group with the same name, and rang the death knell of the listserve group. Bob Ringwald (being blind) expressed his frustration at the move to social media, due to the fact that social media sites at the time were nearly impossible for him to navigate compared to the conversational listserve format.
At any rate, I consider myself blessed to have experience the bboard and DJML while still at their peak(s). What a different on-line world it was back then - where the features were much more limited, but the conversational nature was still more deeply ingrained.
Here's to great influencers, great platforms (thank you, Mark), and the great posters past and present!
Happy Keystrokes and Footsteps,
Fuzzy

I encourage young people to go on this forum. But, retirees have more leisure time so it is only natural that their (our) presence should be greater than that of the young.

I (white jacket) turned 80 in 2025. Started playing clarinet in 1959 and added sax a few years later. It's been a good hobby.
