No, it's not a phrase one might say when having just effected some noteworthy feat like slam dunking a basketball: that we'll leave to expressions like "Babam!"

LSS, looking at the Patricola CL2 clarinet https://patricola.com/en/portfolio/cl2-sib-concerto/ I noticed it available in Bubinga, which is a Rosewood, and I guess subject to the downsides of a less dimensionally stable and prone to cracking wood that Rosewood is compared to Grenadilla, but apparently Bubinga is a African Rosewood that is harder than regular Rosewood.

Does anybody has thoughts on this wood related to its use in making clarinets with it?

TIA

Buffet have used it for contrabassoons and several recorder makers also use it for larger recorders. I'm sure some bass and contrabass clarinets have also been made using bubinga instead of grenadilla or rosewood/palisander.

Lyon & Healy also used it as one of the many veneer options on their Style 30 harps.

My comment may be a bit dated since I looked at and played a rosewood Patricola around 2000. That said, the rosewood model I played was their top of the line. My issue with that horn was that the sound is more “muted” compared to the African Blackwood horn. And of course the wood is softer and prone to a little more deformation due to hygromatic conditions. If you are ok with a more subtle sound, it is well worth considering.

However, I played the African Blackwood top of the line Patricola at ClarFest in Orlando (2016?) and that was AMAZING!!!!!

When I was buying my Patricola C directly from them, i was interested in the Bubinga option for it. When I said it was for orchesteal use they specifically advised buying grenadilla.
