Aside from the ICA and its ClarinetFest, might someone be able to name trade shows that clarinet vendors of the world tend to frequent, which players can attend to try instruments? Maybe regional ICA events are the answer here.
Not that many easily drivable brick and motar music stores seemed to have a broad selection of instruments before internet sales made their overhead (and willingness to take on inventory) more relatively expensive, but I'd still like to try instruments rather than having a setup one sent to me.
Recently interested in trying some Yamahas, with little desire for urban driving or parking, (forget if Yamaha Atelier NY would even entertain me) visiting NYC Woodwinds in Brooklyn, no offense to Michael or Brooklyn, isn't my cup of tea.
Sure, flying to say, Ohio isn't trivial, but if all the major players were in attendance it might make the trip worthwhile, especially if I could add some non instrument trying agenda to the trip.
TIA

The state Music Educators' Associations have annual conferences. I used to go most years to the Pa MEA conferences and try instruments in addition to seeing all kinds of gear. I've read here fairly recently about the Texas MEA conference.

University of Oklahoma has a clarinet conference every Summer. Many top players and vendors attend.

Just received an email from Lohff & Pfeiffer indicating that they will be touring Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania for the next six weeks or so. They mention that they will have a wide variety of clarinets, including Yamaha, available for trial, as well as being available for repairs. You could see if they will be at a location that is convenient for you. Wolfgang Lohff can be contacted at 415-470-6879 for questions or to set up an appointment.

I used to go to Musikmesse every year and it was huge, just about everyone was there and a lot of obscure and unknown makers too. I was told it isn't as nice as it used to be and even some of the larger companies sometimes don't come or have just a symbolic small booth... so I don't know what it's like now.
There is a Musikmesse equivalent in China and in the USA but I don't know what they are like.

Second Try: The trouble with trade fairs is that they are so incredibly noisy that it is almost impossible to try any gear out in tolerable conditions. I've worked in a couple and it took me a long time to get over the 100 decibel noise.
