When I posted about Brad Behn’s single screw ligature on May 18th, (Behn Screw Ligature): http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/Bboard/read.html?f=1&i=516727&t=516727, David H. Kinder stated: “I'm still on the hunt for an older Rovner Eddie Daniels ligature EDII clarinet ligature from the late 90's that I can't find anywhere…”. I did a fair amount of searching also and I couldn’t find it anywhere either. David also included a picture of the EDII ligature in his response.
Today, 8 days later, I began believing that I could easy make a simulated version of the EDII. I already had an old Rovner Dark ligature and some small, stainless steel braces from my “embouchure brace” invention.
I was right in that I could easily make an EDII generic simulation.
Now, all I had to do was try it out and compare it with my Dark Rovner with no metal plates and also against my favorite Luyben ligature.
To make a long story short, my homemade, generic, simulated EDII version easily won out.
My EDII simulated version seemed to allow my reed to vibrate more robustly and freely which allowed me to play a slightly harder reed. This, in turn, allowed me (for the first time in a long time) to play in the upper clarion region.
It appears that the Rovner Dark ligature was practically designed for the conversion. The 2 holes on the reed side are 12mm apart. This, of course, equals the width of the average clarinet reed so these 2 holes indicate exactly where the edges of the reed are. All I had to do was put some Gorilla double sided tape on the back of each stainless steel plate and center them directly over the 2 holes. (The “plates” are actually picture hangars and are 7mm wide and 30mm long after cutting them.)
As for alignment, I left a little overhang on the top and bottom of the Rovner to allow for verification that the metal plates were indeed centered over the edges of the reed.
David, IMO, this homemade EDII simulated ligature is very easy to replicate. I hope you’ll give it a try.

Thanks! I just might! I still have a spare Rovner Dark ligature I could mess with.

If you're talking about the one that was essentially the Rovner Versa (EDII), there was actually a version that was before the previous Eddie Daniels ligature.
In the previous ED ligature, the side rails are plastic. The version even before that, they were a soft rubber. I had that one too and discarded it when the one with the plastic rails came out... again 30 years ago in '95-'96.
