I think the design of a clarinet keywork makes a tremendous difference in the away you play the clarinet. I personally like the Royal Global keywork for Bb and A clarinets as it feels the most comfortable and secure, and I'm less likely to make mistakes and vastly improves the overall playing quality. This brand to me makes playing music of all difficulty level much easier to handle.
Who is your maker of the clarinet that allows you to play your best based on the keywork?

Very good question. I think for me there are just a bunch of trade offs.
Many years ago I'd say I would easily take a Buffet over a Selmer just based on the keywork (shape, feel, how they move). Today I'm not so sure. I do recall playing a Boosey 1010 and just LOVING the left pinky alternate F/C key. Even those LONG keys had rods all the way through (no pivots on the clarinet at all). The feel cannot be replicated any other way. BUT, if the axle gets the least bit bent (dropped clarinet, yada yada) then getting the axle true again is a nightmare.

I once tried a Selmer Recital (in A) - it felt extremely nice under the fingers.

I play Orsi Classic 3/4 boehm clarinets which are lovely to play. The keywork is beautifully made. They are made from cocobola wood which has a wonderful feel and produces a great tone. My basset clarinet in A is a Leblanc and is fantastic. My new B flat basset clarinet is going to be a Buffet with a Steven Fox extension. My basset horn is an Uebel which has a superb feel to it and my bass clarinet is a Buffet Prestige which is incredible. I play a Selmer D clarinet which is gorgeous and a Noblet C and E flat and I really like the feel of the keywork of those as well.

I just wonder how many players considered key work when choosing their new clarinet...
My last clarinet I chose based on tone quality and response, then tuning. Did not think of key work at all.
