Is it me? Is this not new?
It seems that several of the vendors to the clarinet world, Buffet, Vandoren, and Selmer to name a few, have come out with more limited edition collectors item products that in times past. Titanium mouthpieces, carbon fiber ligatures that belong in museums, the Selmer Bb Muse clarinet 2025 Limited Edition, the Buffet Festival Clarinet with lever E-flat – A – 19/6 A limited edition in mopane...
not an exhaustive list.
Sure, many of us older folk will remember things like Buffet's B12 Clear Acrylic clarinet. In times old and new, limited edition runs have allowed manufacturers to charge a premium for things people hope may have collective value. But is this trend on the rise, an if so, does anyone care to speculate why?
TIA

The current trend is due to brand anniversaries:
Buffet Crampon: 200 years
Vandoren: 120 years
Selmer: 140 years
Ridenour AureA Bb clarinet
Vandoren BD5 HD 13-series mouthpiece
Vandoren Optimum Silver ligature (plate 1)
Vandoren #4 Blue-box reeds

There's been a noticeable rise in the production of limited-edition clarinet products by manufacturers like Buffet, Vandoren, and Selmer, featuring items like titanium mouthpieces, carbon fiber ligatures, and exclusive clarinets. These runs allow companies to charge a premium, appealing to collectors and musicians who hope these items gain value over time. This trend is likely driven by marketing strategies that create exclusivity, efforts to celebrate milestones, a focus on innovation through premium materials, and catering to a market of collectors seeking unique, investment-worthy pieces. While it blends tradition and innovation, opinions differ on whether it's an exciting development or merely a strategic gimmick.

Who is behind these AI generated responses, and what is the motivation? I’m assuming that liza45crosby is not an actual reader of this board.

ISM,
"Who is behind these AI generated responses?" I don't know.
"What is the motivation?" My guess is to see if it can pass as a real person.
"I’m assuming that liza45crosby is not an actual reader of this board." I agree with you.
I sent a short email to liza45crosby@rosslistens.one and received the following from my email provider:
