65,000 euros worth of stolen Amsterdam clarinets found at border control
During a border check, German police found fifteen stolen clarinets worth around 65,000 euros. The musical instruments were stolen from an Amsterdam showroom earlier this week. A 42-year-old Serbian has been arrested as a suspect.
The police came across the find just across the German border near Roermond. The suspect who crossed the border on the A52 turned out to be known to the German police due to previous thefts. In addition, he had a driving ban at the time of the arrest.
In his car, authorities found the fifteen clarinets along with burglary tools and a balaclava. The suspect has been handed over to Dutch authorities and is being held in custody for the time being.
Bloody hell! Imagine the state they're going to be in after being bundled up like that!
Several years back several UK woodwind specialists had saxes nicked - there was a photo around the side of sax.co.uk's showroom where many of them were just dumped on the ground and CCTV footage of them grabbing armfuls of saxes off the racks and chucking them out through the hole they tore through the side of the building. Howarth, Dawkes and others were among others hit too.

Sounds like the plot of a Wallace and Gromit movie. Seriously though, if you were going to go through the trouble of a heist, why would you pick clarinets?

Somebody 'ordered' a specific model but the thief did not know how to identify it so he took them all to be sure he had the correct one? Maybe...

PS My previous Selmer Présénce Bb clarinet was lost in 2022 in southwest London- would've been wild if it appeared amongst this bundle!

"Clarinet god--"
I'm pretty sure it's obvious that the clarinet was stolen.

He should have given it to someone who knows how to take care of it properly

Reese: I lost the instrument on a train during a harrowing housemove(in which I was carrying a lot of stuff)- I realized it within a minute and went after it on the next train minutes later. Had it not been stolen it would've ended up at the terminal station's lost and found storage. But since it never showed up in the 6 months after it's presumed to be stolen out of sight. But I digress- unless our arrested friend above happens to have that very instrument in his "stockpile"!
PS I've since bought a 2nd hand pair of Présénce Bb/A for good price and I like them better than the Bb I lost, so it worked out in the end- only that I was forced to go on hiatus on Bb/A for 2 years and focused on bass clarinet & tenor sax for my music career!

Woohoo. Accusing someone on here of stealing your clarinet that YOU lost. I'd kill to have had such a great clarinet when I was in high school. Middle schoolers get RC Prestiges nowadays. It's ridiculous.
