 Interesting creativity

A colleague of mine saw this band at a festival this summer and told me about it. Here is an older video of them.
The interesting part starts at 1:10.

The unexpected use of clarinets instead of guitars should be applauded but this seems rather a niche to me.

Looks like the band is maybe trying to jump on the "2 Cellos" bandwagon.

The option of being dragged through broken glass , or going to a German Rock concert is always a tough decision, and one in which clarinets probably don't particularly tip the balance .lol

Or did 2Cellos jump on the Coppelius bandwagon? 2Cellos first album was released in 2011. Coppelius has been releasing albums since 2007, and has been around since the late 90's.

And old geezers like me might view the 2Cellos popularity as just the youngins getting their first exposure to cello rock, a genre that at least dates back to ELO, in the early 70's.

But can't really compare something like 2Cellos, who as far as I know simply play covers of other people's work, to groups like ELO and Coppelius, who actually play original works. I like hearing interesting original work in all genres, including what I have heard from Coppelius over the years.

That said, I am in total agreement, Julian, with your attitude regarding attendance at such live performances. The volume levels are unbearable at most live events for almost all styles of performance. My hearing protection goes everywhere I go, in a case on my keychain, and gets used much more often than it should. Don't get me started on wedding DJs.

Thank you John, I did not know of this group and it's long standing history. I'm actually always interested in any artists who break molds creatively, seeing as that's what creativity is all about, and I'm inclined to give them points for that irregardless of how much I happen to like them. ELO. Jethro Tull, Jean-Luc Ponty etc. all offer a fresh angle in my view which, at the very least, deserves to be respected as such.

Perhaps we can still save a bit of broken glass for offering direct feedback to sound engineers at Rock concerts.lol
