i saw a clarinet for sale advertised as an r13b 660,,,that is printed on the barrel, but i never heard of that model...is that number just a particular tuning barrel or is it a r13 type,,,kind of like an s-1?

it just means it is a 66 mm barrel bored for an r13 bb clarinet. It would presumably be the barrel that came with an R13 bb clarinet but if your only information is the barrel stamp you should ask for more information. You can buy those barrels aftermarket and put them on top of practically any clarinet.
The B is because Bb is written as B in some countries and for some reason buffet doesn't use decimal notation on their barrels so 660 is really 66.0 mm length.

Hi Hunter,
Good reply except that you probably meant the barrel like that can be bought separately.
However, they are original Buffet barrels, not aftermarket.

The term aftermarket does not rule out the original company. It means components purchased as an accessory or addition after the orignal purchase. But yes, I meant Buffet barrels purchased later on.

In common use, the term "aftermarket" refers to parts and accessories made by manufacturers other than the OEM (original equipment manufacturer).
