I play CSGs and have mostly used Zinner mouthpieces over the recent years. I have played BD5s with good results as well as BD4s (which I prefer in an orchestral setting). However, even with the BD-series, I find most Vandorens to be too restrictive and somehow a bit rough in their sound.
As I'm getting older and looking for better results with less effort, I've recently tried the Gleichweit mouthpieces (BW B7-1, B7-4, B8-4) and they are wonderful for me. They play in tune, have a very smooth, warm, clear sound that is consistent over all ranges and dynamics, respond well, are very reed friendly and have a modest resistance that one can really sing into. You can ask for recommendations and a 10-day trial period from Gleichweit and I have also seen them on Innoledy.
