Hi,
As it says in the title of the thread- I am looking for a 2nd clarinet part of the Mendelssohn's violin concerto in E minor transposed for B-flat clarinet.
Found the 1st, but not the 2nd.
thanks.

The best things in life are free. But there is no free lunch.

You might start by asking your orchestra librarian whether they have transposed parts. They might have the parts, but didn't know they were supposed to hand them out. (In my experience, librarians who are not wind players tend not to understand these things.)

You can buy transposed parts from Lucks Music Library

https://www.lucksmusic.com/CatalogSymph.aspx?Detail=Y&ItemCode=00520

You might inquire with your orchestra brass colleagues as to whether any of them might also need transposed parts.

You might suggest to your orchestra's librarian that they acquire the set of transposed parts. As an orchestra librarian, I do that as a matter of routine.

All of these suggestions are well-taken. But in m1964's case it was a last minute substitute who doesn't own an A clarinet playing 2nd clarinet.

For anyone's benefit who needs a transposed part and has time to order one, Luck's actually posts a list of transposed parts that it had available as of 2021. You can find it at:https://www.lucksmusic.com/Content/Catalog%20PDFs/2021%20Educational%20Catalog/transposed%202021%20Final.pdf

This may be slightly technical, but if you have the original part, one thing you could do is scan it, get it in a pdf format, and upload it to the Musescore Pdf converter, then go into musescore and transpose it there.

Yes, of course. And I've done this for people any number of times using Finale, which I've used since the original version, or Sibelius, which many active teachers as well as composers and arrangers own.

This process isn't entirely straightforward. It depends on the scan and the quality of the original how much editing you need to do to the converted score. With any luck, it only needs a few accidentals and some text notation (dynamics, tempos) that the music OCR just missed. Sometimes the OCR misses a lot more.

I've never used MuseScore for this, since I own Finale and am comfortable with it. How much and how accurately does it interpret dynamics, style markings and articulations?
