I'm one of those people that gigs with my fair share of extra stuff.
....backup mouthpieces, ligatures, basic repair items, electronic music tablet, a good inventory of broken in reeds, etc., it adds up in terms of space.
Up until now my solution has been, recognizing that no clarinet case alone can hold all this stuff, to opt for a tiny clarinet case, but put it in a larger gig bag on wheels (this outer case is about 1/2 the size of one that's under an airline seat approved) that held the rest of my stuff.
Perhaps there's some middle ground here.
Can someone recommend a case, ideally with cover to not simply protect the case, but hold my music tablet and some, but not all the gear I usually carry, certainly larger than my "just clarinet case" but smaller than the small luggage of my outer case?

You could give the little Protec case a look. There is a snap on pouch that will hold a tablet and “stuff.” If you use the storage space in the case wisely, it can hold a fair amount for a small case. Best things are that it has good insulation from banging around and the lid stays open on your lap (a lot of small cases can’t do that).
Woodwind Brasswind has it as Protec Zip case with removable Music pocket.

If you had something very specific in mind you could probably have it made fairly easily.
I used to do a lot of sewing, so have thought a fair bit about how to put things together. I reckon that anyone who can make a wedding dress would consider this kind of bag a much easier job.
The tricky part is always getting the right kind of fabric, but if you could find a bag in a shop that is in the right kind of fabric, but a bit too big, then it would be reasonably doable just to take the bag apart and sew it back up in the shape that you want. If the bag has a lot of little pockets then they can be taken off intact and put back on in the places that you want them in your custom build.
The tricky part is making it look professional, and that would need someone with the skills and experience and good machines. Someone who works in a repair shop or who makes wedding dresses could probably do it.
It would be easier than a wedding dress in many ways, because it wouldn't involved dealing with curves and with the occupant wanting to move around and still have the fabric "drape" nicely.

If you only using a Bb clarinet on the gig, you can get a lot of extra stuff in a double clarinet case, esp. if it's one of the types with a space in the lid for music, reed cases, etc.
