 Jon Manasse's wife
Author: SecondTry

Many of you know of Jon and his wonderful playing.

I grew up on Long Island with him. Even as a student he was just such a force in clarinet play: not merely his technical abilities and his artistry.

Anyway, I was so sad to read this story of his wife Pam being injured by one of those unlicensed electric bikes so prevalent in urban areas--herself a professional cellist prior to this incident.

I'm angry and sad.

That's really heart-breaking isn't it?

I suppose this is why Paris is banning electric scooters.

The scourge of the streets of Nashville. But they are so popular with tourists (our bread and butter) that there is probably nothing that can put a stop to them.

"injured by one of those unlicensed electric bikes"

Until I read the article, I got the impression the vehicle was unmanned.

I'm not a lawyer but I believe that in Canada (I live in BC) the police could charge the "driver" with Criminal Negligence: https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/section-219.html

That still would not result in justice for Jon's wife and they have my deepest sympathy.

Paris only banned rented scooters (and to be precise, only the kind with two small wheels, where the driver stands on a small platform between the wheels, not the seated model).

By the way, only 7.5% of inhabitants did vote, of which 90% against the rented scooters.
