There was a similar incident concerning cough medicines from India responsible for a number of intoxications and several deaths in Asia recently. I always try to validate that over-the-counter stuff is manufactured in Europe or bears the CE label of control. No Chinese toothpaste with antifreeze please !

Unease grows among U.S. doctors over Indian drug quality
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-india-genericdrugs-insight-idUSBREA2H06Y20140318
A week or two ago, I got a refill of my cholesterol medication. When I noticed that the size of the tiny, round pill was about 1/10th the size of my regular, flat pill, I asked if I could receive the same pill as I've been receiving in the past. The lady behind the counter said: "You can ask your doctor for the same brand name pill but your insurance company probably won't pay for it."
Of course my insurance company really cares about my health! (NOT)
IMHO, my insurance company continually looks around for the cheapest generic they can find and couldn't care less which foreign country makes it.

If they did, the price of a tube would be so high that a clarinet would be given with each one.
