venn 2 synth reed for bass clarinet

just came in mail and after first test-its a close rival for legere euro for me. very good responce and sound more like cane than legere. we will see about durability as time goes on but first impressions are extremly positive. i ordered tenor sax 2.0 as these run 1/2 strength hard i am told. 2.0 feels good so far. i need soft reeds due to severe asthma

First post on this board.......its a nice place to visit!

Good to know about another synth reed to try....thanks.

I'm waiting for a Legere Euro 2.25 as an alternative to try in comparison to my current Legere Signature 2. I've been looking for something thats nice to play and will stand up to long practice sessions.
That said....I do prefer playing a good cane reed.
But the Venn might be another one to try.

I play a somewhat open mouthpiece..(old Otto Link 5*) and am finding softer reeds are working best for me.

Dan,

Are you beta-testing these Venn bass clarinet reeds? AFAIK Venn bass clarinet reeds still aren't officially offered at this time, unless you are using the tenor Venn reeds on bass clarinet.

And since you've mentioned Legere Euro- I've found that Legere American Cut Tenor reeds to work better than the actual Legere Euro bass reeds on my Fobes bass pieces, and Walter Grabner also explicitly recommends Legere ACs for his mouthpieces as well. In terms of size/hardness Legere ACs are more or less the same to the Vandy V12s i.e. 1/4 strength harder than Vandy Blue Box or D'Addario Reserve(my current go-to reeds), but tonally closer to the latter 2 IMO.

Josh

They're tenor sax reeds per the OP.

josh thats interesting about the american cut tenor reeds and the fobes bass mpc. i may give that a try!. i was expecting the fobes bass to preform like the fobes alto clarinet mpc which is just SO amazing with legere . come to think of it i am using legere american cuts on the alto! because there are no euro alto reeds.

I'm using Legere AC 3.25 on my Grabner White Velvet and Legere EC 3.25 on my Fobes CF. Both reeds are the same strength yet they perform differently; the EC sounds a bit airy on the Grabner and feels stiff. The AC 3.25 is too soft when played on the Fobes but an AC 3.75 plays nicely.

gave the venn2 2.0 tenorsax reed a really good workout last nite at rehearsal. the low end on this reed is extremly powerfull and articulates better than any legere i have played. you can really dig out the low notes with gusto with out fear of squawks and squeaks. the tone is darker than legere but only slightly so. these reeds run harder than most. the 2 was work sometimes for me. iused the fobes mpc last nite was was satisfied with it for once. will try the venn of my execellent woodwind steel ebonite and vandy b44 and selmer c* next. i found the reed to be useable overall and mabey legere finally has some serious competition
