Hey all,
I recently retired, and moved from the Chicago area to Nashville. Can anyone recommend a tech in the Nashville area that can work on my clarinet and bass clarinet?
Cheers,
Marty

Hi Marty,
Sorry I cannot help with a tech around Nashville, but maybe you can consider:
1. shipping your instruments to a tech that's not local to you,
or
2. If you are planning a trip to a major metropolitan city for an unrelated purpose (family engagement, etc.), find a reputable tech there.
Good luck!

We should exchange Chicago stories........can't live without my Italian beef sandwiches (there are a few sources here!).
I drive the three hours to Louisville Kentucky to see Jonathan Copeland (betterclarinets.com) who is probably the best tech in the US right now. Well worth the slight inconvenience.

Onks Woodwinds in Smyrna (30 min from Nashville) is a good option! I also use Giant Steps and Consisten-C Winds (in Chattanooga) for things. When I need major work, I send my instruments to Mile DeCastro up in Potsdam, NY...he's great!
Jonathan Copeland is also great and in Louisville, which isn't too far (used to work at Oaks). Definitely worth the drive!

Paul (and others),
Thanks for the recommendations. I think we were both students of Walter Wollwage, if I remember correctly. Also, if you’re talking about Campion’s, I’m already a fan! It’s definitely worth it to me to drive to Louisville, or Knoxville - I have some subtle issues that I would only trust to a top-tier tech.
Marty
p.s. are you playing in any bands/orchestras down here?

312 Pizza in German Town (pizza, Italian Beefs)
Chicago Express, Smyrna (hot dogs, Italian Beefs)
There is a "northside" joint but I forgot the name.....have to get back to you on that. [yup, it's Campione's Taste of Chicago]
There is a really decent wind ensemble in town called the Tennessee Valley Winds. Their big yearly concert will be coming up at MTSU the second week of February. Usually this features guest artists and conductors.......lots of fun!

Paul,
Thanks for the tips - going to have to try 312 pizza!
I’m playing bass clarinet in the TVW. Fun group! I’m playing Bb in the Nashville Community Concert Band, and I see there is an opening for clarinet in the Nashville Philharmonic - I’m considering auditioning for that one as well.
Cheers,
Marty
