I'm a beginner. I have been practicing my clarinet for two weeks now. I played the oboe in Jr and Sr high. I am 74 years old. I have a 1955 Boosey & Hawkes clarinet. I am taking private lessons. My mouthpiece is a Forbes Debut and Im using 2.5 and 3 reeds, Mitchell Laurie. The barrel that came with my clarinet is 63.60 mm millimeters, outside measured with electronic digital calipers. Most of the notes I play are flat, from 10 to 25 cents, using a pitch app on my iPhone. I have another barrel that is 62.5 mm and most notes are in tune. Note A just below middle C is spot on. From middle C up to G is also mostly in tune (as high as I can go now.) know as a beginner I am working towards being more in tune.
I thought barrels it came in even numbers, 65 mm, 66 mm. Are the barrels I have unusual?

Hi Claude,
It's really lovely to hear from another adult learner. I've been learning for three years, and would love to hear more about your progress if you would like to keep posting.
Good luck!
Jennifer
