Hello,
Recently I have discovered a disturbing fact: I'm too tall to play my school's bass without pulling the spike out right to the screw!! I tried my friend's neck strap, but i didn't really like it all that much... I was wondering what you people recommend. A longer spike, maybe?
Response to this thread quickly would be kindly appreciated- I need to play soon!

Also, I am getting very worried. On Bb clarinet, my fingers now are feeling WAY too cramped and I'm worried that, if I don't end up playing bass or bassoon more, My fingers will never feel right! And another weird thing: Any time I attempt to play clarion B, IT ALWAYS SQUEAKS UP TO A G! I have tried everything I know to fix it! I play a fairly decent condition YCL-255 (Which I hate with a passion).

I like that! I will try them soon. So, the legere bari works for bass clarinet as well?

Just to clear up any confusion, Legere, Bari, and Bravo are all different brands of synthetic reeds. The Legere European Cut for bass clarinet is quite popular, and you can also try Legere American Cut Tenor Sax reeds as they also work well on bass clarinet.

As a quick fix put a few books or a block of wood under your peg.

There are tons of threads on this site discussing the various Legere reeds for bass clarinet.

>> Check this thread out and you'll see the issues about getting a longer peg. <<
There aren't really "issues" with a longer peg. Maybe advantages and disadvantages to consider when standing with it instead of a harness (but different straps and harnesses also have them). In this case at least it sounds like they only need a slightly longer peg because they are tall, not a very long peg for standing. Maybe an inch or two longer would be more than enough and there will be no issues with at all compared with the original (assuming it's made well, etc.). The cumbersome solution would be something like a thick book under the current peg or anything similar, or alternatively a shorter chair.

I only need an inch or two, realistically. I am going on a clarinet supply buying binge soon, and I will try out all this!
