I've been spending quality time on a certain auction site this morning, scouting out a likely clarinet upgrade, and have been bombarded by some particularly crappy listings.
Even my autocorrect knew to try to fix the spellings in my post title.
Sigh. Argh.
What is the most egregious spelling mistake you've seen on eBay?

Most of the really bad/funny ones are from one or more Japanese sellers. My theory is that one person is pronouncing the word as a Japanese would, and a second person is spelling that pronunciation more or less phonetically in English. It's actually kind of interesting.

Sometimes spelling variations are a way of selling fake lookalike goods, such as Selmar, Bufet, Biffet and Boosey Hawks, all of which I've seen.
Sometimes it can be a cultural thing as well. The company I worked for many years ago had a manufacturing facility in Japan, and the brochures coming from them were sometimes ludicrous. Repeated attempts to get them to correct things failed, so I was sent over to sort the problem out. I asked why they didn't get a native English speaker to write their brochures and was met with a very polite stone wall of refusal.
I re-wrote their copy for them and left. The next lot of brochures were the same as the originals, rubbish. It seems that for them to admit that their brochures were incorrect would be seen as a criticism and an admission of error, and this was not acceptable to them. They did change eventually, but not until the manager concerned was promoted and replaced with an American.
