Doreen gets a lot of jazz from her composite Shine clarinet made in South Korea.
She says in the latest edition of The Clarinet that she's worn out a Selmer and a Buffet, and the Shine instrument may be more durable for the outdoor performances she does.

The Shine company made a really good student clarinet - I recall testing it out at Clarinetfest one year (2003 in Salt Lake City?). They made the right hand tone holes slightly smaller (and thus slightly higher/closer together) to accommodate the smaller hands of children. I was impressed with the care they had gone to to design this (without the instrument becoming stuffy).

I'm sure they are decent instruments and it's nice to see alternatives to what's already on offer, only the thing that gets me on their site is they make the claims the Shine ST2 is "The only student clarinet that has auxiliary Eb key" or "Extra Eb Key - First on a Student Instrument (ABS Body)" which simply isn't true as Amati, Schreiber/Buffet and Yamaha have offered the LH Ab/Eb lever on their plastic entry level models and I suspect there were or are others.

It's still a shame they and none of the established or big name makers offer well-made and affordable plastic C clarinets with 17/6 (or even 18/6 keywork with the LH Ab/Eb lever) as I'm sure they'd be popular.

A yamaha plastic C clarinet would be awesome!
December/Jan 2019/20 an opera in Paris changed from "historic instruments" to modern at a weeks notice and the clarinet section used Amati plastic C clarinets (selected as the best 2 out of a selection of around 20). They sound fine but require some "Re-tuning" (as did my wooden Amati). No one in the audience noticed.
