Hello to everyone
Recently I came across a Buffet Elite which looks different from the original depliant and the first series
It does not have the raised lower tonehole, the lower joint is longer and with an additional resonance hole and also an additional mechanism on the back
Maybe you know when Buffet introduced this change and why?
This version has the same sound of the previous?
If it is some latest change may be an improvement or maybe not...
Please let me know about the story... Thanks!

Lohff & Pfeiffer have an interest in the generally discontinued Buffet Elite models and still offer them for sale when they can get some. I suggest contacting L and P at info@clarinet.dk.

It was most likely done to even out the tone by having E/B issue from a tonehole on the lower joint rather than directly from the bell. If you close off the E/B tonehole, you'll get low Eb (issuing directly from the bell).
Some Elites also have an automatic low F correction mechanism similar to that seen on Selmer Recitals and Backun clarinets that's operated by the speaker key - the vent is open to raise the pitch of low F, then it's closed when playing low E and also closed when the speaker key is held down to be sure the upper register C isn't sharp.

I prefer the first edition. The second edition was a paradox where the body was extended and mass added to an instrument that was designed to be light. The compensation mechanism also adds mass. IME the second edition doesn't tune better either.
