I am trying to figure out my clarinet pedagogy lineage and wishing I had asked my late first teacher who he studied with. I know he was a British Army musician and was sent by his regiment to the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall in the late 1920s or early 1930s. He likely also earned a degree or certificate at the Royal College of Music, maybe in the mid 1940s. Anyone out there have any contacts at either institution who might have access to really old student records and/or could tell me who the clarinet faculty were there at those times?

Just contact the institutions involved, all you do by asking here is add an unnecessary step.

Thanks all who tried to help. Some context: donald, do you think that if I hadn't tried asking the institutions already without success that I would ask here? I'm a pretty experienced researcher and have already pursued numerous avenues (including the National Archives, direct queries to the institutions and direct communication with Alwyn Turner, one of the historians who has documented the history of Kneller Hall). For whatever reason (probably because they're appropriately focused on music instruction during a challenging time), the institutions have not responded. For the stage of research I am at, I need to correspond with individuals at the institutions who have direct access to very old records of specific students, if such records survive. I ask here because of the small but viable chance that someone on this forum may know personally someone within the administrations of the institutions themselves and would be willing to facilitate an email introduction.

Hi Amy,
Drop me an email. I might be able to introduce you to the current clarinet teacher at Kneller Hall. They may know the person you need to contact. Sadly military music institutions can be very slow to respond in my experience.

You could/should have made that clear, especially as 1)the other two replies wasted their time googling for information you apparently already knew so you effectively wasted THEIR time, and 2) it's very common on this board and on fb for people to ask questions like that without making a good effort themselves first. Good luck with Peter's contact
