Recently I acquired Bb and A Yamaha SEVR clarinets after playing R13's for several decades. While the mouthpieces that Buffet used to supply with new horns were never usable (someone suggested they could be used as doorstops), to my surprise both of the Yamaha 4CM mouthpieces that came with the SEVR's played extremely well; good intonation, lovely rich deep core and center. With Covid I haven't had a chance to see how well it projects in a hall, but to my ears in larger rooms in the house and outdoors it seems that projection and sound quality is good.,
I usually have used a Greg Smith 1, or Wodkowski "Philadelphia" (i.e. Ched style close tip, medium facing length) with Legere EC 3 reeds. These, as well as V12 3 or Aria 3.5, 4 also play very well on the Yamaha 4CM which was my second pleasant surprise. However, the Yamaha feels a bit more resistant and not quite as responsive as the other two, and requires more work. I don't have mp measuring tools but per the Yamaha website the 4CM tip opening is 1.05, with a pretty long facing length of 21 cm - kind of like what I'm used to.
Does anyone have suggestions who might have experience with refacing these Yamaha mps to bring it more in line with what I'm looking for i.e. better response without losing the core sound?

Merlin Petroff has done work on these mouthpieces that has been enthusiastically received by a top pro. You can contact me offline if you would like his email address. He doesn't seem to have a website these days.
I own CSVRs and just recently picked up an SEVR Bb which is now my favorite. I can see an SEVR-A in my future.

Thanks. Will do. The SEVR- A is the best A I have played. Both work well with P&S barrels - had to wait 4 months for barrels ordered through Thomann - special order for P&S to make them specifically for SEVR.

Yeah I've found the Yamaha 'custom' mouthpieces (like 4CM, not 4C) to be not half-bad. My pair of Yamaha CSGs came with a pair of 5CMs which are even better. Rather than trying to reface a 4CM you might be better off trying to buy a 5CM off a CSG owner who doesn't use it. If you're desperate you could buy mine but I'm in Australia and would have to post it over to you haha.

I've refaced 4C mouthpieces quite successfully, but with these ones I feel I can never quite get the tone to "hold" at different dynamics. They will always sound fine (when paired with the right reed) within a narrow dynamic range, but lose some of the quality of the sound at FF and PP.
The 5C I've had a lot more success with - several of my students play on discarded 5Cs with a slightly lengthened facing, similar to the Lomax "3" facing, less resistant than a 5RVLyre.
You are, of course asking about the CM "custom" mouthpiece blanks - that I've had no access to (these are quite rare here in NZ). I'd like to try one of these sometime, and suspect that the 5CM might respond to "my" treatment- though that doesn't mean YOU will like it ;-)
Here is the facing I put on the last 5C I refaced - 38 / 23.5 / 12 / 5.5 / 1.08mm
(that translates to a 19mm length)
